I first became aware of Jules Shear in 1989 when he released his Third Party LP. At the time, I was totally into The Church, and I bought the album because Marty Willson-Piper played guitar on it. To be honest, I listened to it a couple of times and then forgot about it for a couple of years. Sometime later, I pulled the album out and gave it another spin because one of the songs came back to me for some reason. It was like listening to the eloquent whisperings from a raw soul; a sound not to be forgotten again. Jules Shear is a brilliant lyricist and a songwriter of the highest caliber. As a solo artist and a collaborator, he always brings immense depth to his recordings and live performances. He's worked and played with some of the finest musicians on earth, and tends to be a community builder among them. If this is your first exposure to Shear and his work, I encourage you to explore further...go out and find his albums, even the out-of-print and hard-to-find ones, and listen. I think you'll be glad you did. And if you're a longtime Jules fan like me, enjoy the site and e-mail me at lslapiko@lslapiko.com if you've got anything to say. Strangely enough, over the years, this site has become sort of a crossroads for exchanging stories and information, and even putting people long out of touch back together again.
